How a report is structured
Do you have a report from our institute and would like to understand it better? Here you can see exactly how your report is structured.
The reports we prepare always follow the same structure. After the address of the referring physician and the patient's details, the main part of the report contains:
- the so-called macroscopic description. That is, the size, appearance, consistency and so on – everything that was determined with the naked eye.
- the microscopic description that follows serves on the one hand to establish the diagnosis, but also documents particular features of the respective specimen.
- the assessment contains the diagnosis. In some cases, brief additions are included here that describe the nature of the disease in more detail. This part is the most important section for you and your doctor.
Often, after these sections, references are given to relevant prior findings or to further examinations still being carried out at our institute (immunohistology).
